Personal Statement from Richard

Although I have worked as a Civil Engineer & Contracts Manager I have been painting on and off all my adult life. My first love was oil paints but in recent years I have been seduced by the benefits afforded by fast drying acrylics. They allow me to work at a pace which lets me bring more of the excitement of the subject into the finished work. I like to work on a variety of subjects; the key is that the subject excites or challenges me. The style I favour is not dissimilar to impressionism but I also like experimenting with other styles.

 I am an award winning member of the Arnold Art Society in Nottinghamshire. In the past few years I have attended workshops with John Townsend, an established and nationally  known local artist, and this is improving my portrait and general painting skills.  My paintings have sold widely and they have  found their way into private collections  in Ireland, Portugal & Denmark, as well as in the UK.
